First Generation is honored to recognize the Travis Manion Foundation as today’s recipient of a $1,000 donation through our “12 Weeks of Christmas” program. Shortly after the death of 1st Lt. Travis Manion in Iraq on April 29, 2007, the fallen Marine’s mother, Janet Manion, founded the Travis Manion Foundation with a goal of honoring the fallen by challenging the living. Headquartered in Doylestown, PA, the Travis Manion Foundation has garnered a national reputation for using innovative programs to transform communities through service and how we honor those who serve.
Until her death on April 24, 2012, Janet Manion worked tirelessly to assist families of other fallen service members, Veterans, and active duty troops. The words her son, Travis, spoke before leaving for his second and final deployment to Iraq – “If Not Me, Then Who…” – inspired Janet every day as she built the Travis Manion Foundation. The Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) targets the issues that face our Veterans, survivors, and military community by focusing on building community through social interaction, team building events, and mentoring and advocacy.
TMF offers challenge grants as a way to empower returning Veterans and families of fallen service members. Applicants map their own course, and then apply to TMF for resources to assist their efforts. TMF provides life coaching, transition assistance, healing, and grief support through team building events and social interaction.
